Zakat Eligibility 2023

Amaanah’s programs are Zakat eligible.

We’re pleased to confirm the eligibility of Amaanah’s programs to receive Zakat contributions.

This letter from Joe Bradford, a respected Ethical Advisor & Scholar of Islamic Law, confirms his assessment of our programs, methodology and mission.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

  • After reviewing ARS, its operations, mission, and policies related to Zakat, I determine it to be substantively within the parameters of classical Islamic scholarship related to the category of Zakat recipients they service through their collection and use of those funds. Any and all funds donated to Amaanah Refugee Services are considered eligible as Zakat, fulfilling the donor’s religious duty as a pillar of Islam. Joe Bradford

What is Zakat?

Amaanah’s staff and supporters come from a range of cultural and religious backgrounds. Our many Muslim brothers and sisters will begin celebrating Ramadan this month, and we wish them all the very best.

As one of the Five Pillars of Islam, Zakat is a religious duty for all Muslims who meet the necessary criteria of wealth to help the needy.

Zakat on wealth is based on the value of all of one’s possessions. It is customarily 2.5% of a Muslim’s total savings and wealth above a minimum amount, known as nisab, each lunar year.
