Big Sister Circle Program

The Big Sister Circle Program, part of Amaanah’s Women’s Empowerment (WE) initiative, was established in 2021 to support immigrant and refugee women in the U.S., particularly in Houston. Originally a basic needs program more than fifteen years ago, Amaanah has evolved into a comprehensive support system to help women not only survive but thrive. The program addresses challenges like isolation, depression, and trauma by fostering meaningful connections between newly resettled women and mentors known as “Big Sisters,” who are often former refugees or immigrants themselves.
